The placement test
If you already know some of the language, the placement test marks the words and grammar you know so they are not taught to you again. It takes five to ten minutes and needs an account.
- Website
- Mobile app
Taking the test
It is offered in the first-run questions, and is in the account menu as Placement Test. It has four parts:
- One question: your CEFR level, if you know it.
- Rounds of words where you tick the ones you know. Each round adjusts to your answers. I know none of these ends it. Then you see how many words the check found, before the grammar check starts.
- Example sentences, one at a time, where you answer I understand it, Not sure or I don’t understand it. The grammar check starts around the level you picked, moves to harder grammar when you understand and back to easier grammar when you don’t, and asks more where you hesitate. Finish here ends it early.
- Your starting point: what will be marked Known and Familiar, how many grammar points you know, and the CEFR level you are around.
Nothing is changed until you press Confirm. Retake starts over and Discard results throws them away.
Importing what you know
Instead of the test, Import a word list takes a list of words with an optional level each, or marks every word up to a level as Known. For words you already have, choose whether to only increase, only decrease, overwrite or skip them.
Reverting a placement
The placement page lists every confirmed run. Revert & Delete puts the levels it changed back, for words, characters and grammar. Anything whose level you changed yourself since then keeps your level.
