Finding a course

Courses lists every course with the levels it covers and its number of lessons, and can be filtered by level and tag, so you can start at your level. A course marked One lesson a day opens one lesson per calendar day.

What a lesson contains

  1. The lesson: an overview, the explanation, new characters, a dialogue with its translation, the new words and the grammar points.
  2. The characters, when the lesson has some: practice for the new ones.
  3. The words: a flashcard session with the lesson’s words. Next moves on without it; the words stay in your reviews.
  4. Grammar: each grammar point of the lesson in full.
  5. Questions: multiple choice, putting words in order, filling blanks, typing answers and matching pairs. Check (Enter) shows whether you were right and why.
  6. Summary: your score, each question, and a button to practise the ones you missed.

When a lesson introduces kana, they are practised with the kana quiz, using every kana the course has taught so far. New kanji are read aloud.

A lesson counts as done once you have answered all its questions. It always reopens on its first page; Where you were jumps back to the step you reached.

Locked, skipped and done lessons

A lesson opens when the one before it is done or skipped. In a One lesson a day course, a lesson finished today opens the next one tomorrow. A locked lesson can be opened anyway with Unlock it anyway, or looked at without saving anything with Look ahead at this lesson anyway.

A course page with its sections and lessons marked Done, Ready and Locked
The course page shows how far you are and which lesson is next.

Skip this lesson, in a lesson’s menu on the course page, marks it skipped and moves the course on. Skip ahead to here skips every lesson before it. Skipped lessons can still be done later.

Your courses appear on the dashboard with the next lesson. Leave the course, in the course menu, takes it off the dashboard; your progress is kept and you can rejoin.

Course review

Review course vocabulary, on the course page, studies the words of every lesson you have been through. The same words are part of Today’s study.

Without an account

Signed out, every lesson of a free course can be read, but the practice steps are left out and nothing is saved.
