Reading and lookups

Reading text in images

A photo of a menu, a sign or a page of a book can be read like any text: Lingaku finds the text in the picture and every word in it opens the popup. No account is needed.

Adding an image

Paste an image into the search dialog, drop it there, or use its image button, then choose Read text in 1 image. This opens Read an image. There you can paste more images with Ctrl+V, drop them on the page or click to choose them; each one is read on its own.

Reading the result

The text found is drawn over the image, marked by your level like any other text, and every word opens the popup. The same lines are listed beside the image. The Text overlay switch hides the text to show the picture as it is. To find the text, the image is sent to Lingaku’s servers.

Open in reader opens all the text of the image in the reader, which is easier for longer passages. Remove image takes it off the page.

Images on other websites

For comics, screenshots and video frames on other websites, the browser extension reads the image where it is, without you having to save or paste it. Right-click the image, or press Alt+Shift+O, and the text appears over it on the page.
