The particle まで indicates an endpoint – either in time ("until," "till") or in space ("to," "as far as"). It marks the point where something ends or the farthest extent of an action or state.

Time: "until"

When attached to a time-related noun, まで expresses the point in time up to which something continues.

Place: "as far as" / "to"

When attached to a place noun, まで expresses the farthest point to which someone goes or something extends.

Paired with から

まで is very often used together with から ("from") to express a range – either in time or space. The pattern から～まで means "from ... to ..." or "from ... until ...".

Important nuance

まで emphasizes that something continues all the way up to the endpoint. It does not necessarily mean the action stops at that point – it simply highlights the extent. Compare this with に, which marks a specific point in time without implying duration.
