もしも～なら / もしも～でも【もしも～なら】

もしも is an emphatic form of もし ("if"), used to introduce hypothetical or imagined situations. It adds a stronger sense of supposition than もし alone, often implying that the condition is unlikely, uncertain, or purely imaginary. It commonly pairs with conditional forms like なら and concessive forms like でも.

もしも～なら – "If (supposing)…"

Used to present a hypothetical condition and state what would follow from it. The なら can also appear as ならば for a more formal tone.

This pattern is especially natural when the speaker is genuinely uncertain about the condition or is imagining something far from reality:

もしも～でも – "Even if (supposing)…"

Used to express that the result holds true regardless of the hypothetical condition. The でも adds the concessive nuance of "even if."

Nuance compared to もし

While もし is the standard "if," もしも sounds more dramatic or emotionally invested. It is used in conversations about dreams, worst-case scenarios, and thought experiments. In everyday casual speech, もし is more common; もしも appears when the speaker wants to emphasize the hypothetical nature of what they are saying.

• もしも can also pair with other conditional endings such as ～たら and ～ば, not only なら and でも.
• もしも is sometimes used at the very beginning of a sentence for rhetorical effect, even without a clear conditional ending:
  もしものときは、れんらく連絡してください。
