The grammar pattern ～てみせる expresses a strong determination or resolve to accomplish something, often implying "I will definitely do it" or "just watch me." It conveys the speaker's confidence and commitment, as if they are saying they will demonstrate the result through their actions. The literal meaning is "do something and show (the result)," which naturally extends to the nuance of proving oneself.
This is the most common usage at the N1 level. The speaker declares that they will absolutely accomplish something, no matter what obstacles exist. It often carries an emotional tone – defiance, pride, or ambition.
The pattern is most naturally used when the speaker is talking about their own actions. Using it about someone else's actions is uncommon unless quoting or reporting their words.
In some contexts, ～てみせる retains its more literal meaning of performing an action to show or demonstrate to someone. Context determines which reading applies.
Be careful not to confuse this with 〜～てみる ("try doing something"). 〜～てみせる is about showing or proving through action, while 〜～てみる is about attempting something to see what happens.
